Tipu murder case in Comilla, a court has sentenced two accused to life imprisonment and six others to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each. Additionally, all convicts have been fined Tk 50,000, and in default, sentenced to six more months in prison.
The verdict was delivered on Tuesday (July 29) by Judge Sabbir Mahmud Chowdhury of the Comilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4.
The two sentenced to life are Mehedi Hasan and Shahidul Islam from Sonagazi in Feni. The six who received 10-year sentences are Md. Jasim Uddin, Md. Jamal Hossain Manik, Md. Ekramul Haque Milon, Ibrahim alias Boro Mia, Md. Alauddin, and Md. Shahabuddin. All of them are currently absconding.

According to case details, on the night of May 16, 2009, victim Tipu, a footwear trader from Chauddagram, stepped outside his house when a gang of robbers, lying in wait, shot him dead. Locals rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Tipu’s father Mohammad Ali filed a murder case against unidentified individuals. Using technology, police eventually identified the suspects. Four of them gave confessional statements under Section 164.
The charge sheet was submitted in 2011, and formal charges were framed in 2013. After a lengthy judicial process involving witness testimony and arguments, the verdict was finally delivered.
Out of the 17 accused in the case, three — Ibrahim, Tazu, and Abdul Razzak — died during the trial. Six others were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The prosecution was led by Additional Public Prosecutors Advocate Md. Iftikhar Hossain, Md. Ekram Hossain, and Jalal Uddin Ahmed Tipu.
With the verdict now announced, the family of the victim sees a partial sense of justice after years of waiting in the Tipu murder case in Comilla.
