XI Admission Crisis in Comilla Board has taken a serious turn as more than 150,000 seats remain vacant in 468 colleges across six districts. A dramatic fall in SSC pass rates—especially in mathematics—has led to this alarming situation.

According to the Comilla Education Board, there are 259,260 available seats for XI admissions this year. However, only 106,581 students passed the SSC exam, resulting in a shortfall of 152,679 students.

Education Board sources warn that some colleges may face closure due to a lack of applicants. However, the Ministry of Education has not yet issued any formal decisions regarding the XI Admission Crisis in Comilla Board.

Urban colleges such as Comilla Victoria Government College, Comilla Government College, and Comilla Education Board Model College remain the top choices among students.

Comilla Commerce College Principal Humayun Kabir Masud said, “The Board ensured a level playing field in this year’s SSC exams, and as a result, the true academic performance is reflected. Reputed colleges will not face difficulty in enrolling students.”

Chowddagram Alhaj Nur Mia Degree College Acting Principal Muhammad Mohib Ullah added, “Compared to city colleges, rural institutions may see fewer admissions, but this could lead to better educational standards overall.”

Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Hossain Majumder, Deputy College Inspector of Comilla Board, stated, “Despite 259,260 seats, we expect over 150,000 to remain unfilled. In 2024, 19,456 students who passed SSC did not enroll—citing early marriage, foreign migration, poverty, or transfers to other boards.”

The XI Admission Crisis in Comilla Board is also influenced by dropping out after SSC. Admission will be conducted entirely online, with applications open from July 30 to August 11. The fee is Tk 220.
