Firoz Alam (60), publisher and editor of the Feni-based daily Suprabhat Pratidin, has passed away. He breathed his last on Saturday (March 28) around 1:00 PM while being taken to the National Heart Institute in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
He was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where emergency doctors confirmed that he had died before being brought in.
According to auto-rickshaw driver Anwar Hossain, he was waiting for passengers at Sayedabad Janapath intersection around 12:45 PM when Firoz Alam and another passenger hired him for Tk 500 to go to the Heart Institute. After the other passenger got off midway, Alam suddenly became critically ill and collapsed within minutes.
Following advice from locals and police, he was taken to DMCH.
Firoz Alam was a sports journalist in the 1980s. Later, he joined Sonali Bank and recently retired. After retirement, he resumed journalism by launching the daily Suprabhat Pratidin. He was also a member of the Bangladesh Sports Writers Association.
