A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Moazzem Hossain, former Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to ex-adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Local Government.
According to a report by bdnews24.com, the order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.
Court bench assistant Md. Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.
Earlier in the day, CID Sub-Inspector Md. Abdul Hannan submitted an আবেদন seeking restrictions on Moazzem’s foreign travel. The আবেদন stated that during his tenure as APS, Moazzem allegedly accumulated hundreds of crores of taka through influence peddling, tender manipulation, and extortion.
The তদন্ত further claims that he laundered the illicit الأموال to several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Canada, and the United States.
Authorities said a money laundering investigation is currently underway, and there are concerns that the accused may attempt to leave the country at any time. Therefore, the court deemed it necessary to restrict his বিদেশযাত্রা until the investigation is completed.
Previously, on May 24 last year, the same court—following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission—ordered the blocking of Moazzem’s National ID and imposed a travel ban.
Moazzem had later sought court permission on January 20 to travel to Thailand for medical treatment, but the court denied his request.
