The measles outbreak in Cumilla district is worsening at an alarming rate. At least three children have reportedly died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka after being আক্রান্ত with measles. Meanwhile, at least 21 children are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals across the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Ali Noor Mohammad Bashir stated that the situation is becoming increasingly concerning, with the number of infections rising steadily.
At Cumilla Medical College Hospital, a visit to the pediatric department revealed that measles-infected children are being brought in from various upazilas of the district. The ward is filled with anxious parents, reflecting growing fear and uncertainty.
Dr. Mia Monjur Ahmed, Head of the Pediatric Department, said:
“We have opened a dedicated ward to provide specialized care for measles patients. Since March 18, a total of 25 children have been admitted. Among them, 8 have recovered and returned home, 2 have been referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment, and 15 are currently under treatment.”
Health experts warn that without urgent strengthening of vaccination efforts and public awareness, the situation could deteriorate further.
