Jamaat leader threatens engineer — a disturbing incident unfolded in Comilla’s Muradnagar upazila where a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Mahbub Alam Munshi, allegedly threatened to kick the Upazila Engineer out of his office. The confrontation, captured on video, went viral across social media platforms, triggering widespread condemnation.
The altercation took place on Tuesday afternoon inside the office chamber of Upazila Engineer Kazi Faisal Bari Purnya. In the video, Mahbub Alam Munshi, who serves as the Assistant Secretary of Muradnagar Jamaat, is seen standing across the desk from the engineer, loudly declaring: “I’ll kick you out of here!”
According to Munshi, the issue stemmed from a neglected rural road stretching from Baskite to Pranti Bazar in Paharpur Union. He claimed that the engineer dismissed their repair request, stating sarcastically, “If water accumulates on the road, go clean it yourselves with a bucket.”

Munshi stated that he, along with several locals, went to the engineer’s office to submit a formal application for repairs. He alleged that the engineer grew agitated and refused to take responsibility, pointing instead to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). This led to a heated verbal exchange lasting several minutes.
Speaking to reporters, Munshi said, “The video clip that’s gone viral is only 10 seconds of a 10-minute argument. It’s being spread out of context to tarnish my image. Later, senior community members mediated and we resolved the issue at the UNO’s office. I deleted any recordings as per the agreement.”
Local Jamaat leader and Muradnagar Amir, A N M Ilyas, confirmed the altercation, stating, “The incident was unfortunate. We sat with the Upazila Engineer and the UNO to find a solution. Such incidents should not happen, and we regret the confrontation.”
Despite repeated attempts, Upazila Engineer Kazi Faisal Bari Purnya could not be reached for comment.
Muradnagar UNO Md. Abdur Rahman told the media that the initial complaint about the road was brought to his office. He redirected the petitioners to the Upazila Engineer. “What happened inside the engineer’s office is not entirely clear, but threatening a government official is unacceptable,” he added.
Jamaat leader threatens engineer — the incident has raised serious questions about the growing trend of political pressure and verbal intimidation towards public officials in rural administrations. Authorities are yet to announce if any formal action will be taken.
