Culture Affairs Minister Nitai Ray Chowdhury, MP, visited National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University as part of preparations for the national celebration of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 127th birth anniversary.
The minister visited the university campus in Trishal on Monday, May 11, 2026, and inspected different facilities and preparation activities.
During the visit, Member of Parliament for Mymensingh-7 (Trishal) and university syndicate member Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Liton accompanied the minister.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam welcomed the minister with flowers on behalf of the university administration.
Later, at a conference room adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor’s office, the minister was briefed on the university’s history, academic activities, and infrastructural development.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister said National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a symbol of non-communal spirit and one of the greatest literary figures in Bengali literature.
He said the university should be developed into an international-standard institution and emphasized the need for new academic departments, especially a language institute, to attract foreign students.
The minister also said the university should be developed as an important center for education and cultural tourism.
MP Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Liton said preparations are underway for a five-day Nazrul Jayanti celebration in Trishal, which he described as the largest cultural event in the area’s history.
He added that ministers, state ministers, poets, writers, and artists from across the country are expected to participate in the event.
University deans, department heads, teachers, officials, staff members, students, and local administration officials were also present during the visit.
The Culture Minister visited the university after attending a preparatory meeting in Mymensingh regarding the national program for Nazrul’s 127th birth anniversary.
