A fresh wave of controversy has erupted in Bangladesh’s political and social media landscape following a strongly worded Facebook post by Naem Nizam, former editor of Bangladesh Pratidin.
In his verified Facebook post, Nizam made critical remarks targeting Asif Nazrul, accusing him of remaining silent during his time in power and only speaking out now regarding Muhammad Yunus. He also hinted at alleged agreements made without Yunus’s knowledge, though he expressed uncertainty over the authenticity of such claims.
Nizam further stated that at a time when many media outlets refrained from publishing critical reports on Yunus, his newspaper had taken a bold stance by covering such issues, which, according to him, drew dissatisfaction from certain quarters.
Referring to remarks made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nizam suggested that her previous statements regarding Yunus were, in fact, accurate.
In a sharply critical tone, he went on to accuse both Yunus and Nazrul of contributing to what he described as a “mob-driven environment” in the country, even labeling Yunus as a “ruthless ruler.” He further claimed that such a “terrifying rule” is unlikely to be seen again in Bangladesh in the future.
The post has since gone viral, triggering widespread reactions across social media platforms. The remarks have sparked intense debate and renewed political discussions, with users expressing mixed opinions over the claims.
