The NCP Cox’s Bazar Visit has triggered political unrest in Inani as senior leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) arrived at the Sea Pearl Hotel on what they called a personal tour. However, rumors of a secret meeting with former US Ambassador Peter Haas spread rapidly, leading to a spontaneous protest by local BNP activists.

On Tuesday, August 5, at around 11:25 AM, a group of senior NCP leaders landed in Cox’s Bazar on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-433 from Dhaka. The delegation included Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Coordinator Sarjis Alam, Southern Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, Senior Joint Member-Secretary Tasnim Jara, and her husband and NCP Co-convener Khaled Saifullah.

NCP Cox’s Bazar Visit Sparks Rumors, BNP Stages Protest Over Alleged Peter Haas Meeting

At approximately 12:40 PM, they checked into the Sea Pearl Beach Resort in Inani. According to Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) Saifuddin Shaheen and hotel authorities, the group occupied three rooms on the 5th floor, and no foreign guests—especially Peter Haas—were registered at the hotel.

“There are three Chinese nationals staying at the hotel, but no one named Peter Haas,” confirmed hotel security officer Kamruzzaman.

NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari dismissed the rumors outright, saying, “We came here on a family vacation. There is no meeting with Peter Haas.”

Despite the clarification, local BNP leaders and activists gathered near the hotel premises. Cox’s Bazar District BNP President and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury told reporters, “NCP leaders arriving here on the anniversary of the July Uprising raises serious questions. The people have the right to know who is meeting whom.”

The police have urged all parties to avoid spreading unverified information and maintain public order in the tourist zone.
