NCP leader killed in lightning strike — A local leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Majnu Mia, 22, died after being struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in Jamalpur’s Madarganj upazila on Friday afternoon (May 15). The tragic incident took place in the Kamarpara area under Jorkhali ইউনিয়ন.
The deceased was the son of Bacchu Mia and an active member of the National Student Force in Madarganj upazila. The matter was confirmed by local police authorities.
According to local sources, Majnu Mia went to harvest paddy in a field near his home on Friday morning. Around 1:00 pm, sudden stormy weather accompanied by heavy rain and lightning hit the area. During the storm, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot. Locals later recovered the body and brought it back to his residence.
Majnu’s father, Bacchu Mia, said his son had gone to the field in the morning for harvesting work. At the time of the storm, he was at the mosque to attend Jummah prayers. After returning home, he learned about his son’s death.
Expressing grief over the incident, NCP Joint Member Secretary Lutfur Rahman said Majnu Mia was a polite, humble, and promising young activist who regularly participated in organizational activities. His untimely death has cast a shadow of mourning among party leaders and activists.
Officer-in-Charge Snehasish Roy of Madarganj Police Station said police had been sent to the scene and legal procedures regarding the incident were underway.
