Oboni Mohon Das death has brought deep mourning to the people of Sunamganj. The veteran politician and beloved leader passed away at Mount Adora Hospital in Sylhet, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and service. His passing marks the end of an era in local politics.
Oboni Mohon Das was a fearless political figure who served as the Vice President of Sunamganj District Awami League and as the elected Chairman of Shalla Upazila Parishad. He fought tirelessly for the rights of ordinary people throughout his career. However, his final days were marked by suffering—both political and personal.

On August 5, he was detained and imprisoned for 18 days. Though released later, his health deteriorated. Despite efforts to seek treatment abroad, bureaucratic delays slowed the process, even though his visa was ready. After treatment in India, he returned home, only to fall ill again. He reportedly lived in constant fear of rearrest.
Renowned journalist Sushanta Das Gupta wrote on Facebook:
“Oboni Mohon Das was more than a politician; he was an institution. His departure leaves a void that will not be easily filled. He symbolized fearless service, honesty, and commitment to people.”
With Oboni Mohon Das death, the region has lost a guardian of democracy, a principled leader, and a lifelong servant of the people. We extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved family and followers. His contributions will be remembered as a guiding light for future generations.
