Principal confined in mosque Cumilla — this dramatic event unfolded Monday at Cumilla Victoria Government College, where students locked the principal inside the mosque for five hours, from 3:00 PM to around 8:30 PM, demanding his resignation.
According to reports, the protest escalated after a student-principal dialogue failed to provide concrete assurances or a clear roadmap regarding their demands. Frustrated students chanted slogans like “One demand, one goal – principal must resign” and staged a demonstration.
Earlier, students had issued a nine-point demand in a press conference, including:
- Immediate student union election
- A separate, modern campus for degree students
- Enhanced campus security with CCTV and lighting
- A permanent police outpost to prevent external threats and drug activity
- Transportation facilities, clean water, modern restrooms, and a transparent financial system
Mofidul Hasan Pallab, a student from the Bangla department, said:
“We can’t even talk to the administration directly. The principal locks the doors. We must take someone with us to get a response. What kind of democratic environment is this?”
Sabrina Sultana, a resident of Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, said:
“There’s no water in the hostel. Repeated complaints have brought no results. Even after a year, the principal couldn’t deliver justice for Tamim’s assault. Now he threatens to expel us.”
Joint Secretary of the Teachers’ Council and senior lecturer Md. Monsur Hellal stated that all financial information is now displayed digitally and on the website. However, he declined to comment on the resignation issue.
Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mohinul Islam said that a meeting is planned regarding the student union election, though the principal has yet to officially respond.
When contacted, Principal Abul Bashar Bhuiyan stated that “the matter is being handled” but refrained from making any public comment.
Principal confined in mosque Cumilla is not just an isolated incident; it highlights the broader crisis of accountability, transparency, and democratic practice in higher education institutions across the country.
