Some So-Called Students Are Trying to Tarnish the Student Community: Kaykobad

Mohammad Shariful Alam Chowdhury  :

BNP Vice Chairman Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad stated that certain individuals, under the guise of students, are attempting to tarnish the student community. He also alleged that those who have formed the new party, the National Citizen Party (NCP), have allied with members of the Awami League.
He made these remarks on Saturday afternoon during a public rally organized by the local BNP at the Haidarabad Samsul Haque College grounds in Akubpur Union, Muradnagar Upazila, Comilla.
Addressing the NCP, Kaykobad said, "If those who formed the new party (NCP) desire fair elections, I will personally make space for them on our platform. However, today they have joined hands with members of the Awami League. Our students are our pride, but some so-called students are trying to corrupt our society."
Kaykobad, a former Member of Parliament for Comilla-3 (Muradnagar), further stated, "I want to tell Dr. Yunus, the head of the interim government, that you are our pride, a piece of our heart. Please ensure that students' education is not disrupted. People of Muradnagar, pray to Allah for a fair election in the country. But those who have formed the new party (NCP) have now allied with members of the Awami League. Followers of former Awami League MP Yusuf Abdullah Harun once tried to burn me in a brick kiln. Today, they have formed an alliance with his supporters. Remember, no one can stop whom Allah protects."
Referring to himself as a 'worker' for the people of Muradnagar, Kaykobad said, "I am your worker, not a leader. Since 1986, I have been serving you. I can never repay your debt. You have elected me as a Member of Parliament five times. Let us all recite Surah Fatiha for the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the martyrs of August 5, 2024. Because of their sacrifices, we have the opportunity to speak freely today."
Other speakers at the rally included BNP's Comilla Divisional Joint Organizational Secretary Mostaq Mia, Comilla North District BNP Convener Akhtaruzzaman, Joint Convener Tawfiq Ahmed Mir, Major (Retd.) Shahjahan, and Muradnagar Upazila BNP Convener Mohiuddin Anjan.

NCP Holds Simultaneous Rally
At the same time, the National Citizen Party (NCP) organized a rally approximately three kilometers away at the Pir Kashimpur High School grounds in the same upazila. The rally was organized by the Bangra Bazar Thana branch of the NCP. The chief guest was scheduled to be Md. Billal Hossain, father of Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, advisor to the local government and headmaster of Akubpur Yakub Ali Bhuiyan High School. However, despite his name being on the banner, he did not attend the rally.

The main speaker at the NCP rally was social worker Golam Kibria Sarkar. He stated, "Comprehensive reforms must be implemented, and justice must be served against Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League before elections can be held. The demands for which students and the public have shed blood must be fulfilled. Elections without ensuring the people's desired and fundamental reforms are unacceptable."
Golam Kibria Sarkar added, "Those advocating for elections without reforms do not care about the welfare of the people. A political party is desperate to come to power to engage in extortion, looting, and land grabbing. The people have witnessed their actions in the past. We want to say that the people of this country can no longer be held hostage by fascism. Those dreaming of establishing fascism must be thrown into the dustbin of history. People are already disturbed by their actions. Therefore, to fulfill future aspirations for the country and the nation, the NCP must be strengthened."
The rally was presided over by Bangra Bazar Thana NCP President Kamrul Hasan and conducted by General Secretary Shariful Islam. Speakers included M.A. Zaher Munshi, Muradnagar Upazila NCP President Md. Minhajul Haque, General Secretary Md. Enamul Alam, and Obaidul Haque Siddiqui, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Muradnagar Upazila branch.
