Full Report:

A fraud ring is targeting journalists across the country by impersonating representatives of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, warned the Trust’s Managing Director Muhammad Abdullah in a Facebook post on Tuesday night.

According to the post, several journalists—especially those who have previously received grants from the Trust—have been contacted by scammers who claim they are eligible for additional funds. Using this false promise, the fraudsters attempt to collect sensitive information such as bank account details and ATM card numbers.

“There is no provision for direct transfer of funds from the Trust. Grants are only disbursed after proper verification and approval by the Trustee Board, and only through crossed cheques,” Abdullah clarified.

He urged all journalists to remain vigilant and to immediately report such attempts to the law enforcement authorities.

The incident has raised alarm among the professional journalist community, as scammers are exploiting the name of a reputable government institution working for journalists’ welfare.
