Bangladesh : Female journalist gang-raped while doing investigative reporting!

Mohammad Shariful Alam Chowdhury, Special Correspondent: A female journalist was gang-raped in the capital's Mirpur. She was raped in an under-construction building in the Balurghat area of ​​Pallabi Police Station around 1 am on Monday (March 18). Police have arrested two people in the incident.

Pallabi Police Station OC Mohammad Nazrul Islam said that the victim lodged a complaint with the police station. After receiving the complaint, two of the accused were arrested. She has been sent to the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The victim came to know a month ago that a gang in the Matikata area of ​​the Cantonment was blackmailing men and women and extorting money. While investigating this, she fell into a trap.

On Monday (March 18) at around 11 pm, she went to the alley of the Singer showroom in the Matikata area to collect information. There, the accused surrounded her, beat her and dragged her to a secluded place.

At around 1 am, she was taken to an under-construction building in the Balurghat area. There, she was raped throughout the night in an empty room on the third floor.

Enamul Haque, Hamidur Rahman, Chhota Yasin, Baro Yasin, Shahin, Robi, Hasan, Anu and a few others have been accused in the incident.

Police said that the investigation into the case is underway and efforts are being made to arrest the rest. The incident has drawn a storm of condemnation. Law enforcement agencies have assured the speedy arrest and punishment of the culprits.
