The head of the reformist administration has come under public scrutiny following his unexpected declaration of intent to resign — a move that coincided with the army's firm stance against any potential “bloody corridor” scenario.
This sudden development stands in stark contrast to the leader's previous silence during numerous national crises, including:
- Widespread public humiliation of teachers
- Mob violence taking over court premises
- Shutdown of key industrial operations
- Vandalism of Liberation War memorials
- Sharp deterioration of law and order
- Insults to the national anthem
- Fires inside the Secretariat
- Corruption allegations against senior advisors
- A five-month delay in delivering textbooks to students
In none of these cases did he show any sign of stepping down.
Political analysts now question the motives behind the resignation statement. Many suspect it is not a gesture of accountability, but a strategic response to pressure from key state institutions.
Further controversy surrounds his appointment of former Grameen Telecom and Grameen Bank officials as advisors — figures who have long faced criticism over financial misconduct. Allegations date back to the 1980s and 1990s, when massive loans were taken but reportedly never returned.
Observers are also raising concerns over how certain individuals rose from modest government salaries to massive wealth without public explanation.
