Two schoolgirls drown in pond in Cumilla on Tuesday morning at Sakchi village of Chiura Union in Chauddagram upazila. The victims, Fatema Yasmin (Grade 3) and Jannatul Ferdous (Grade 4), were students of Nagar Sharif Government Primary School. They went to bathe in a nearby pond before heading to school’s second shift classes and went missing.
Acting headmaster Md. Ferdous confirmed the incident, saying both girls were preparing to attend their second-shift classes. Local residents launched a search after they noticed the girls were missing. Eventually, their bodies were recovered from the pond and taken to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Emergency department doctor Dr. Sirajul Mostafa confirmed that the girls had already died before reaching the hospital.
