Activities of Asif Mahmud and his father have pushed Muradnagar residents to the edge. Known for political arrogance and abuse of power, their influence has long sparked resentment among locals. That frustration turned violent on Wednesday (30 July) when clashes erupted during a rally organized by NCP supporters in Muradnagar.
At least 12 people—including a Union Parishad (UP) member and a journalist—were injured after unidentified attackers hurled stones and bricks at the gathering.
The rally began around 4 PM at Allah Chattar, where hundreds gathered to protest what they allege to be a conspiracy against NCP advisor Asif Mahmud. But as the demonstrators started their speeches, several bricks were thrown from a nearby Zila Parishad market rooftop, triggering panic and chaos.
Shekhar, a UP member and Asif supporter, said:
“As soon as we began, the rally was targeted with stone-throwing. I got hit on the head and started bleeding.”Civil society leader Minajul Haque added, “BNP men attacked us. More than fifty of our people were injured by their violence.”
However, local residents claim the rally itself was a provocation. They say the activities of Asif Mahmud and his father—including manipulation of local bodies, threats to opponents, and misuse of party power—have created tension across the region.
Amin Kader Khan, investigation officer of Muradnagar Police Station, said:
“The rally was proceeding when suddenly bricks were thrown without warning. It escalated into a clash. Police controlled the situation quickly.”
He assured that the matter is under investigation and action will be taken against the instigators.
A section of the public voiced strong frustration:
“The fear and dominance created by the activities of Asif Mahmud and his father are unacceptable. We demand peace and justice.”
Muradnagar is now clearly rejecting the activities of Asif Mahmud and his father. The wounds from this clash are not just physical—they reflect deeper public outrage.
