At least 20 people were injured in a series of violent attacks over two consecutive days in Kaziatal village under Darora Union of Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla. The clashes, reportedly triggered by a dispute over reckless motorcycle riding and fueled by previous enmity, left 11 people seriously injured and hospitalized. Two separate written complaints have been filed with Muradnagar Police Station against the same group of accused individuals.
According to local residents, the accused are allegedly linked to a local juvenile gang known for engaging in violent activities in the area. The latest incident has created fear and tension among villagers.
Sources said the first attack took place at around 11:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, at the residence of mechanic Shahid Munshi of Changazi Munshi Bari in Kaziatal village.
The dispute reportedly began when Saidul (20), son of Dulal Mia, drove his motorcycle recklessly and crashed into the boundary fence of Shahid Munshi’s house. A verbal altercation followed, which soon escalated into violence.
Victims alleged that shortly afterward, Saidul and his associates launched a planned attack on Shahid Munshi’s residence using iron rods, sticks, bamboo poles, and sharp weapons. Family members were allegedly assaulted indiscriminately, and property damage was also reported.
Following the attack, several injured individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Later that night, Shahid Munshi filed a written complaint with Muradnagar Police Station, naming ten accused persons and identifying four to five others as unknown suspects.
However, before the victims could recover from the first incident, another attack allegedly occurred the following day.
According to the second complaint, on Friday morning, May 29, Mobarak Hossain was allegedly attacked while alone at Kaziatol market. The assailants reportedly beat him with iron rods and hockey sticks, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, around 2:00 PM, Rajib Munshi, Mobarak’s uncle, was allegedly targeted in another attack. Victims claim he was beaten on the face, nose, and head, his shirt was torn, and cash amounting to BDT 1,500 along with a smartphone worth approximately BDT 15,000 was snatched away.
In connection with the second incident, Mobarak Munshi, son of the late Jalil Munshi, filed another written complaint against the same accused persons.
The individuals named in both complaints are:
- Md. Saimon (20), son of Robiul
- Md. Sujon (20), son of Mokbul Hossain
- Md. Saidul (20), son of Dulal Mia
- Anwar Hossain (30)
- Delwar Hossain (35)
- Saidul Islam (24)
- Md. Zahir (28), son of Robiul
- Md. Selim (35), son of Mokbul Hossain
- Md. Shafik (40), son of Abdul Khalek
- Russell Mia (27), son of Fazlu Mia
Additionally, four to five unidentified individuals have also been accused in the complaints.
Local and hospital sources confirmed that a total of 20 people from both sides were injured during the clashes. Among them, 11 individuals remain hospitalized, including nine members of the victimized family and two members from the opposing group.
The affected family members alleged that the accused continue to issue threats even after the complaints were filed, leaving them in fear for their safety. One victim claimed that preparations for further attacks were still ongoing while this report was being prepared.
When contacted on Saturday (May 30), Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Anwar Hossain Chowdhury of Muradnagar Police Station said:
“We have received two separate written complaints from the victims against the same accused persons. The matter is being treated seriously. A Sub-Inspector has already been assigned to investigate the incidents. Strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible after the investigation.”
Residents of the area alleged that members of the accused group are associated with a juvenile gang that has repeatedly been involved in violent incidents. Due to fear of retaliation, many locals are reluctant to speak publicly about their activities.
The incidents have sparked concern and heightened tensions throughout the locality.
