A businessman named Anwar Hossain Nayan (35) was hacked to death by miscreants in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.
The incident took place on Tuesday night (May 5) in front of South Betiara mosque under Jagannathdighi union.
The deceased Anwar Hossain Nayan was a grocery businessman at Gangra Bazar. He was the son of late Abdul Hai of South Betiara village.
According to police and local sources, the attackers intercepted him in front of the mosque while he was returning home after closing his shop. They attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured, and fled the scene.
Locals later rescued him and took him to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
The victim’s sister Kohinur Akter said he was later being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on doctors’ advice, but he died on the way early in the morning.
Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Arif Hossain said preliminary information suggests there was a land dispute with a local group. Police suspect the killing may have been linked to that dispute. Investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
