Khagrachari Journalist Torture 2025: Allegations surface against army personnel for abducting and torturing reporter Milon Tripura during a peaceful protest.
Khagrachari Journalist Torture 2025 has sparked a national outcry after a peaceful protest in the remote area of Bhaibonchhara turned violent with alleged military intervention and brutal treatment of a working journalist. DBC News reporter Milon Tripura, who also serves as the Information and Publicity Secretary of the Tripura Students’ Forum (TSF), was reportedly abducted and tortured by army personnel while covering the protest.
According to local sources, the demonstration was organized by the “Conscious Indigenous Student and Youth Society” in response to a recent rape incident in the area, demanding swift justice for the victim. Witnesses claim the protest was peaceful until it was interrupted by army personnel who allegedly attempted to disrupt the rally.

Milon Tripura was on duty, capturing visuals and information about the protest. Eyewitnesses allege that he was suddenly detained by uniformed soldiers, taken to an undisclosed location, and subjected to both physical and psychological abuse. All collected data—including photos and videos—from his phone and camera were allegedly erased by the soldiers.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation from journalists, human rights activists, and student organizations across Bangladesh. Colleagues of Tripura emphasized his reputation as a professional reporter who regularly exposes hardships and irregularities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. They view this assault as a direct attack on press freedom.
Several media unions and human rights groups have issued strong statements condemning the abuse and calling for an impartial, transparent investigation. They demand that those responsible be brought to justice and that steps be taken to ensure the safety of journalists working in conflict-prone areas like the Hill Tracts.
Efforts to reach the army’s local authority for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of publication.
Khagrachari Journalist Torture 2025 is being widely seen as a grave violation of press freedom and human rights. Rights groups have warned that failure to deliver justice in this case could provoke serious nationwide protests.
