Gulshan Extortion Attempt took a dramatic turn on Saturday evening (July 26) when five individuals were caught red-handed demanding Tk 40 lakh from a residence on Road No. 83 in Dhaka’s upscale Gulshan area. The victims had already paid Tk 10 lakh before notifying the authorities.
The arrestees are Md. Sakadaun Siam (22), Sadman Sadab (21) from Lalpur, Natore, Md. Aminul Islam (13), Ibrahim Hossain (24), and Abdur Razzak Riyad (25). Riyad is originally from Senbagh, Noakhali but resides in Dhanmondi, while Ibrahim hails from Ramdasdi village in Chandpur. Aminul is a Class 10 student at Badda Alatunnesa School and College.
Among them, Ibrahim Hossain Munna serves as the Dhaka Metropolitan Convener of the “Anti-Discrimination Student Movement,” with Siam and Sadab listed as active members of the same organization.
Confirming the Gulshan extortion attempt, Gulshan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md. Hafizur Rahman said, “The suspects and the complainant are at the station. Once the written complaint is submitted, legal action will be taken accordingly.”
