OC among 6 police officers withdrawn over bribery allegations from the Sarail-based Khatihata Highway Police Station in Brahmanbaria. The officers were removed from duty and attached to the Cumilla Highway Police Headquarters following serious complaints of extorting money from goods-laden vehicles on the highway.
The withdrawn officers include Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamun Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bipul Barua, and Constables Md. Shahabuddin, Mostu, Sakibul, and Md. Zahir Mia.
According to local sources and the highway police, on July 3, a patrol team stopped a covered van traveling from Sylhet to Dhaka. Alleging illegal goods in the vehicle, the police officers reportedly extorted Tk 80,000 from the driver.

The incident came to light after a private television channel aired a report, which quickly went viral on social media and sparked public outrage.
On Monday, all six officers were officially withdrawn from their posts and reassigned to the Cumilla Highway Police Headquarters. Sub-Inspector Md. Sajib Mia has since taken charge as the new officer-in-charge (OC) of the station.
Speaking to the media, OC Sajib Mia confirmed that the six officers were withdrawn based on specific allegations and that he had assumed responsibilities accordingly.
Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Highway Police, Cumilla region, Khairul Alam, said: “After receiving the complaint, all six officers were immediately removed. A senior additional superintendent of police is leading the investigation. Once individual involvement is confirmed, legal actions will be taken.”
OC among 6 police officers withdrawn over bribery allegations—this case has raised serious concerns about the integrity of highway law enforcement. Authorities say final decisions will be made based on the investigation’s outcome.
