Schoolgirl dies from snakebite in Debidwar, Cumilla, after being attacked in her sleep during a nighttime power outage. The victim, Saima Akter (13), passed away despite desperate efforts to save her.
The tragic incident occurred late Tuesday night in Khaiyar village of Rasulpur Union in Debidwar upazila. The deceased, Saima Akter, was an eighth-grade student at Khaiyar Nobodhara Adarsha Bidyalaya and daughter of Saudi expatriate Iyar Hossain.
According to the family, Saima went to bed after dinner as usual. Around midnight, the electricity went out, and moments later she screamed in pain. Her family members rushed in to find a snakebite on her hand. She lost consciousness shortly after. Despite immediate first aid, her condition worsened, and she was taken to Debidwar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Her sudden death has plunged the household and the village into mourning. Locals are now on high alert following the incident.
Debidwar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias, stated that no official report or complaint was received from the victim’s family regarding the snakebite death.
