Former Bangladesh cricket captain and ex-member of parliament Shakib Al Hasan is set to join an international virtual press conference on August 5 in New Delhi, where former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the global media online.
According to the organisers, Shakib will be among a panel of speakers that also includes Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former diplomat Aminul Haque Palash, Bangladesh Human Rights Watch Secretary General Mahammad Ali Siddique, analyst Abu Obaidah Arin, and Shah Md. Bakhtiar.
The event marks the first time Shakib will share an international public platform with Sheikh Hasina since entering politics. He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Magura-1 constituency as an Awami League candidate in the 2024 general election. However, his parliamentary tenure ended after the dissolution of parliament following the political change in Bangladesh on August 5, 2024.
Since leaving the country after the political transition, Shakib has largely remained silent on political issues. His participation in the upcoming international media event has therefore attracted attention in both political and sporting circles.
The virtual session will be held at Sir Mark Tully Auditorium in New Delhi, where journalists from around the world are expected to take part in an interactive question-and-answer session.
