Mohammad Shariful Alam Chowdhury, Comilla, Bangladesh : Fahima Akter Priya, Comilla district correspondent of the daily Tritiya Matra, is suffering from kidney complications and various critical illnesses. On February 15, she was injured in an attack by miscreants. Since then, she has been suffering without proper medical care. With no other earning member in her family, this brave voice of journalism is now critically ill due to the lack of treatment after the brutal assault.
Despite appeals for help from society’s wealthy individuals and government authorities, no effective assistance has been provided. In this desperate situation, international aid is urgently needed to save her life.
Journalist Fahima Akter Priya has served as a correspondent for several leading national dailies, including *Moynamoti*, *Bhorer Surjodoy*, *Ajkaler Khobor*, and *Tritiya Matra*, since their inception.
Her husband, Shuaibul Hossain Munshi, was the family’s sole breadwinner, but he is now unable to work due to illness. Fahima has two daughters — one studying in class six and the other in class one. Due to her prolonged illness, the family is barely surviving, often without enough food. To cover her medical expenses, they have even sold their ancestral home.
After being injured in the attack, she was first treated at Comilla Medical College and later underwent leg surgery at Dhaka Medical College. She is currently receiving treatment under kidney specialist Dr. Mobashwer Alam. However, due to a lack of funds, she can no longer afford advanced medical care.
From her hospital bed at Comilla Sadar Hospital, Fahima said,
“We’ve sold everything we had, including our home, for my treatment. Now, I don’t know what to do. Doctors here have said I urgently need to go to Dhaka again, but financially, it's impossible for us right now.”
Dr. Delowara, a medicine and cardiology specialist at Comilla Sadar Hospital, stated,
“Fahima is suffering from kidney disease, diabetes, and other complications. Following the brutal attack, she also experienced a brain stroke. Our hospital lacks the adequate facilities to treat such a case. We are trying our best, but she needs to be transferred to Dhaka immediately. If she receives specialized care there, we hope she can recover.”
