In Comilla’s Muradnagar upazila, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the National Citizen Party (NCP) have both announced separate rallies at different venues on the same day, Saturday, April 19, 2025. This has led to public anxiety in the area.
Both parties are actively promoting their respective events, with leaders expressing confidence that their rallies will draw large crowds.
The Muradnagar Upazila BNP has scheduled its rally at the Haidarabad Samsul Haque College field in Andikot Union, with Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, BNP Vice Chairman and former Member of Parliament, expected as the chief guest.
Simultaneously, the Bangra Bazar Thana branch of the NCP plans to hold its rally at the Pir Kashimpur High School field in the neighboring Akabpur Union. Mohammad Billal Hossain Master, father of interim government's local government advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, is slated to be the chief guest.
When asked about the NCP's rally, Muradnagar Upazila BNP convener Mahiuddin Anjan stated, “The NCP is a new party, and we welcome them. However, the BNP does not consider them a competitor. If a fair election is held in Muradnagar, Kaikobad would secure 90% of the votes.”
Obaidul Haque Siddiqui, convener of the Muradnagar Upazila Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, commented, “We have completed all preparations for our rally. The environment and situation in the area are normal. The NCP will demonstrate its popularity by turning the rally into a mass gathering.”
Regarding law and order, Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahfuzur Rahman told Kalbela, “I have spoken with leaders from both BNP and NCP. They have assured us of their respect for the law. Nevertheless, we will deploy additional police at both rally sites for enhanced security and have informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to ensure overall cooperation.”
Muradnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abdur Rahman stated, “The rallies are being held in two different unions. The area's environment and law and order are normal. To prevent any untoward incidents, police and army personnel will be deployed.”
