Debidwar woman murdered at home — Just days after the brutal killing of three family members in Muradnagar, another violent murder has shaken Comilla. In the early hours of Tuesday night, 45-year-old Jharna Begum, mother of five, was hacked to death inside her own home in Sailchar village under Debidwar upazila.
According to Debidwar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias, unidentified assailants entered the house through a window and launched a deadly attack on the sleeping woman. She was stabbed multiple times on the head and body with a sharp weapon, resulting in her death on the spot.
The police have detained the victim’s husband, Abdul Karim, for questioning. Initial reports suggest the couple had a history of marital conflict. Authorities are investigating whether the murder stemmed from domestic issues or if other motives are involved.
Just two weeks earlier, on July 2, a horrifying incident in Muradnagar’s Korai Bari village left three members of a family—mother, son, and daughter—dead after being beaten by locals over alleged drug connections. In a related development, police on Tuesday also discovered the mutilated body of another woman, Hanufa Begum, in a forested area of Goursar village under Elahabad Union in Debidwar. The back-to-back killings have left residents in a state of deep fear and uncertainty.
On Wednesday morning, Debidwar police recovered Jharna Begum’s body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. OC Elias stated that further investigation is underway and that Abdul Karim is being interrogated thoroughly.
