Panna Bala grew up in an environment enriched with education, culture, and social values. He was the fourth among five siblings, all of whom became successful in their respective professions. His elder brother Biplob Bala was a professor at the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Dhaka, while other siblings established careers in medicine, economics, and administration.

During his academic life, he was known as a talented and dedicated student. He completed his master’s degree in Economics from the historic Government Rajendra College in Faridpur. His interest in journalism developed during his student years when he realized that newspapers are not just a medium of information but also a powerful tool for social change.

Panna Bala began his journalism career in 1982 through the weekly newspaper “Al Muazzin,” published from Faridpur. Later, he worked for several local newspapers including Dainik Gonosonghoti, Saptahik Pragotir Din, and Dainik Bhorer Runner, where he gained extensive field-level reporting experience.

Recognizing his long experience and professional excellence, the leading national daily Prothom Alo appointed him as its Faridpur correspondent in 2005. Through investigative reporting, objective journalism, and neutral analysis, he quickly earned the trust of readers and colleagues alike. In 2022, he was promoted to the position of Staff Reporter in recognition of his professionalism and integrity.

Panna Bala believes that honesty and neutrality are the greatest strengths of journalism. Throughout his career, he has never acted as a spokesperson for any political party or influential group. His uncompromising stance on truth has distinguished him from many others in the profession.

From government officials and politicians to cultural activists and ordinary citizens, people across Faridpur hold him in high regard because he always prioritized truth and journalism above personal relationships.

Panna Bala is also regarded as a role model for young journalists. He regularly guides newcomers about news writing, fact-checking, and professional ethics. Many young reporters in Faridpur consider him a mentor who helped shape their careers.

His fearless reporting and investigative journalism often brought challenges and threats into his life. He faced intimidation, pressure, and hostility from influential groups on multiple occasions. Yet he never stopped writing. Instead, he continued his work with even greater determination.

Panna Bala is known in personal life as a humble and simple individual. Despite coming from an aristocratic family, he never allowed arrogance to define him. He easily connects with ordinary people and always listens attentively to others. However, he strongly protests against falsehood, injustice, and misinformation.

According to him, the primary responsibility of journalism is to stand for the people and expose abuse of power. In his words, “A journalist must have the courage to call truth the truth and falsehood the falsehood. Journalism should speak for people’s rights, sufferings, and deprivation.”

Panna Bala also believes that media is the mirror of society. If that mirror becomes distorted, society itself suffers. In today’s era of online misinformation and rumors, he feels responsible journalism is more important than ever.

Throughout his four-decade-long career, he has portrayed the pain, struggles, dreams, and hopes of ordinary people with sincerity and dedication. His reports carried both strong protests against injustice and a deep sense of humanity. That is why he remains a trusted name to readers and a source of inspiration to fellow journalists.

Panna Bala is no longer just a journalist; he is a living legend in Faridpur journalism. Through honesty, courage, and professionalism, he has proven that it is possible to uphold journalistic ethics and still earn lasting respect and admiration.
